This page will tell you (pretty much) everything there is to know about Bookcamp Kosmopolis 2011:

  • What is a Bookcamp?
  • What is Bookcamp Kosmopolis 2011?
  • How can I take part in Bookcamp K11?

WHAT IS A BOOKCAMP?

A BookCamp is a collaborative knowledge exchange gathering that is open to all and dedicated to the world of books and literature. A series of talks, workgroups and debates on the future of books, new formats, new readers and new writers, digitalisation of contents... and any other topics that the contributors wish to propose: in the Bookcamp it is the participants themselves who generate the contents.

The first BookCamp was held in Rimini in 2008 and subsequent events were then held in London,Toronto, Paris and Vancouver. On 23 October 2010 the Kosmopolis team –with the advisory services of Carlos Scolari and Rosa Llop- organised the first BookCamp in Spain, as part of the 2010 Special Kosmopolis Conference. Thanks to the active collaboration of the work session coordinators and the involvement of the rest of the participants, BCK10 was a huge success. The sweet afterglow left by this experience and the great reception of the format itself has encouraged us to organise a second Kosmopolis Bookcamp gathering, scheduled for 25 and 26 March next, at the CCCB.

WHAT IS BOOKCAMP K11?

  • It is a two-day gathering to be held in March as part of the 2011 edition of KOSMOPOLIS. AMPLIFIED LITERATURE FEST (24 to 26 March), at the CCCB. Admission is free, limited only by venue capacity. Admission fees are charged for the rest of the activities being held as part of the Kosmopolis. Kosmopolis 2011 ticket sales here >>
  • It is organised by the CCCB’s Kosmpolois Team, however the contents are created by the participants themselves: session coordinators and the general public.
  • The Bookcamp’s virtual tool is this Wiki: it is the forum for communication between the organisers and the participants, and amongst the participants themselves, in preparation for the gathering. It is a workspace where you will find all the up-to-date info there is to know about BCK11 and where you can suggest sessions, ask questions, submit proposals... (see below: How to participate in Kosmopolis 2011?)
  • The gathering itself will be defined based on the participants’ proposals. The core of the Bookcamp is made up of sessions proposed by the contributors, but in parallel to these, panels and other activities will be held relating to the main themes. A few days before the Bookcamp, we will publish the programme and schedule on this Wiki. Programme >>

HOW CAN I TAKE PART IN BOOKCAMP K11?

Depending on your desired degree of involvement: you can coordinate a session, participate in the preparatory work on the wiki (proposing panels, discussing sessions, etc.) or come to the live gathering in March.

To coordinate a session or take part in this wiki, you need to sign up first.

You can do that by following this link: To join this workspace, request access to be found on the top right hand corner of the wiki homepage. Within 24 hours you will receive a welcome e-mail from pbworks.com. Then you can proceed to create pages, post comments, submit documentation for existing sessions... Read About this wiki for basic instructions. We also recommend you look through the PBWorks User Manual, the platform that hosts this wiki free of charge. If you have any further doubts, contact us at kosmopolis@cccb.org.

I’d like to coordinate a session

  • Anyone who wants to share their knowledge or interests about their world of books and literature can coordinate a session. Editors, writers, readers, booksellers, illustrators, printers, programmers,... Welcome and thank you!
  • Bookcamp sessions are 60 minutes long. The format can be whatever you want (debate, workshop, roundtable, etc.) but it is essential to be dynamic and participatory. The session presentation cannot exceed 15 minutes. Take into account that may of the attendants will have consulting this wiki and will already have a general idea of the issues to be dealt with or may have taken part in some preparatory work.
  • Session coordinators must actively participate in the session. Use this space to make proposals and pose questions, offer material, invite other people you think might have something to say. In short, kindle participation!
  • If you have read About this wiki and you have signed up, create a new page for your session and kick off the debate! MORE INFO >>

And what if I’m not coordinating a session?

  • Enrich the preparatory work that is already underway by posting comments and contributions to the session pages.
  • Propose topics for the advisory panels: what topics would you like to see discussed by the Bookcamp personalised advisory panels? In the first edition of Bookcamp we had a permanent advisory panel on intellectual property and authors’ rights. Send us your proposals between now and 18 February. LIST OF ADVISORY PANELS >>
  •  Come to Bookcamp Kosmopolis 2011! Spring will come 3 days early! (That’s got nothing to do with anything. We just felt like saying it :- )
